Lapis Lazuli Earrings
Details
For thousands of years, lapis lazuli has been placed on the bodies of queens, ground into pigment for sacred paintings, and carried by mystics as a key to the cosmos. Its deep midnight blue, flecked with golden pyrite like stars scattered across a night sky, is not merely beautiful. It is a map. A reminder that you are connected to something vast, ancient, and wise beyond the reach of ordinary thought.
At INANNA, we chose lapis lazuli for its power. These scalloped earrings hold a natural Lapis Lazuli stone set in 18K gold vermeil — 18ct gold plated on 925 sterling silver, tarnish-resistant, hypoallergenic, and handcrafted with intention. Worn close to the head, they work directly with the upper energy centres, activating the voice and the inner eye simultaneously.
The Stone of Inanna — Queen of Heaven
Inanna — the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, war, and fertility, later known as Ishtar, is inseparable from lapis lazuli. The ancient texts describe her adorned with it: necklaces of lapis at her throat, measuring rods of lapis in her hands, her very divinity expressed through its colour. To wear lapis lazuli is to wear the stone of the Queen of Heaven herself.
Inanna is primarily associated with royal blue, gold, and lapis lazuli, colours that reflect her status as Queen of Heaven and her dual nature as both earthly and celestial. These are her sacred colours:
- Royal Blue: Symbolises the deep, dark blue of the night sky and her role as Queen of Heaven. It is also connected to the deep waters of the earth.
- Lapis Lazuli: A deep, vibrant blue-flecked semi-precious stone heavily associated with Mesopotamian royalty and the gods. Inanna is frequently described wearing necklaces and carrying measuring rods of lapis lazuli.
- Gold: Represents the sun, starlight, and the planet Venus, her astral symbol. It highlights her radiant, divine grandeur.
These earrings carry all three: the blue of the stone, the gold of the metal, and the intention of a brand named in her honour.
How Lapis Lazuli Is Formed
Lapis lazuli is not a single mineral but a metamorphic rock, born through one of nature’s most dramatic alchemical processes, contact metamorphism. Molten magma pushes deep into ancient limestone or marble beds, subjecting the existing rock to intense heat and pressure. Hydrothermal fluids carry silica, aluminium, sodium, and sulphur into the matrix, triggering a chemical transformation that produces:
- Lazurite — the mineral responsible for the iconic celestial blue
- Calcite — the creamy white veins that run through the stone
- Pyrite — the golden flecks that shimmer like stars, giving each stone its unique cosmic signature
Meaning & Power
Known as the “Stone of Wisdom” and the “Wisdom Keeper”, lapis lazuli has symbolised truth, royalty, and cosmic awareness across every major civilisation.
- Authentic Self-Expression: It dissolves the fear of confrontation and helps you articulate your feelings with clarity, confidence, and grace.
- Intuition & Insight: It enhances inner vision — helping you trust your instincts, see through illusion, and make decisions from a place of deep knowing.
- Mental Clarity: It dissolves emotional blockages, relieves stress, and calms an anxious mind so that clear, grounded thinking can emerge.
- Spiritual Protection: Lapis acts as a shield against negative energies — creating a field of tranquillity around the wearer.
Chakra Alignment
- Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Located at the throat, this centre governs communication and authentic expression. Wearing lapis lazuli earrings directly stimulates this chakra — a powerful ally for speakers, writers, leaders, and anyone called to speak their personal truth.
- Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Located between the eyebrows, this chakra governs intuition, imagination, and inner wisdom. The earrings place the stone in direct proximity to this energy centre — heightening psychic perception, dream recall, and access to higher consciousness.
